
Electrical Engineer, PCB Design & Robot Fabrication
Overview
You will own the electrical design cycle for cutting-edge robots, from circuit prototyping to fabrication and testing. This role sits on a cross-functional hardware team in Pittsburgh, PA, tackling both low-level electronics and mechanical integration. You'll work with Altium for PCB design and apply NFPA 70 standards to real robotics systems. The position is on-site and offers the chance to see your designs shipped in working prototypes.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design and refine PCBs for robot control systems using Altium, including schematic capture and layout.
- 2Prototype circuits, assemble and rework boards, and test them against requirements.
- 3Source electronic components and lab supplies, securing lead times and cost targets.
- 4Generate wiring diagrams and documentation for electrical assemblies.
- 5Research and test sensors and ICs for improved robot performance, recommending new parts.
- 6Participate in hardware design reviews, providing input on electrical architecture.
- 7Assemble and test mechanical and electrical assemblies, performing light fabrication on prototype parts.
- 8Support the full design lifecycle from concept through test, iterating on designs.
Requirements8
- 1Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related field.
- 23+ years developing electrical circuits and systems, including prototyping and debugging.
- 3Hands-on experience with UL certification processes and thorough knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC).
- 4Proficiency in circuit design and EDA tools, with Altium preferred.
- 5Ability to perform PCB rework and assembly, including soldering and component replacement.
- 6Experience with sensors, microcontrollers, and analog/digital interface design.
- 7Familiarity with lab equipment like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and function generators.
- 8Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in a manufacturing environment.
