Staff Attorney, Neighborhood Development & Community Revitalization
Overview
Lead real estate, litigation, and advisory work to revitalize Kansas City neighborhoods through blight remediation and affordable housing preservation. Own relationships with neighborhood associations and community development corporations in real estate transactions and litigation. Travel locally, with some evening and weekend commitments to engage communities. This role blends transactional work with civil litigation to empower ground-level neighborhood initiatives.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build relationships with neighborhood associations and community development corporations to advance real estate transactions and community revitalization after acquiring and preserving assets
- 2Draft and negotiate transactional documents including purchase agreements deeds and leases to support blight remediation and affordable housing preservation
- 3Handle civil land use litigation on behalf of community clients including distressed and vacant properties
- 4Advise partners on legal aspects of targeted improvement initiatives from acquisition through project completion
- 5Represent neighborhood groups in real estate matters and provide counsel on title issues
- 6Coordinate with colleagues across the Neighborhood Development Office to deliver coordinated legal services
- 7Attend community meetings outreach and events including some evenings and weekends to stay connected with neighborhoods
- 8Collaborate to ensure high quality accessible legal services and seamless client experience
- 9Maintain strong working relationships with local partners and stakeholders
- 10Travel locally to neighborhoods to support on-site needs and outreach
Requirements7
- 1Active Missouri Bar license or eligible for licensure in Missouri through reciprocity
- 2Computer proficiency
- 3Excellent written and oral communication skills
- 4Desire and commitment to deliver high quality legal assistance
- 5Ability to speak a second language (preferred)
- 6Courtroom experience (preferred)
- 7Experience handling community development cases (preferred)
Salary Insight
$72 - $106k per year
