Overview
Maryland Legal Aid seeks a Supervising Attorney for the Tenant Right to Counsel Project in Towson. This full-time role leads the TRCP unit, oversees staff, and ensures high-quality legal representation for low-income tenants.
What You'll Do17
- 1Plan and assign legal work for the TRCP unit in coordination with the Chief Attorney
- 2Identify strategies to address systemic issues within the TRCP unit
- 3Support hiring efforts to attract staff committed to MLA's mission
- 4Implement Access to Counsel in Evictions efforts across Baltimore County
- 5Provide positive leadership and supervision to attorneys paralegals and clerks
- 6Monitor case handling to maintain quality representation and assist with appellate litigation
- 7Guide professional development through co-counseling and performance evaluations
- 8Ensure compliance with timekeeping and grant-reporting obligations
- 9Handle personnel matters in consultation with executive staff
- 10Represent clients in Baltimore County Circuit and District Courts
- 11Engage with community and attend outreach initiatives
- 12Assist with data collection grant reporting and administrative tasks
- 13Fill in for the Chief Attorney during absences
- 14Continue professional development through Maryland Legal Aid programs
- 15Support strategic plan execution across litigation advocacy and community education
- 16Participate in inter-agency workgroups and task forces
- 17Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Attorney
Requirements10
- 1Admitted to practice in Maryland or eligible for admission there
- 2Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
- 3Two or more years supervisory or leadership experience
- 4Five or more years as a practicing attorney with preference for landlord-tenant litigation
- 5Knowledge of civil law principles and court procedures
- 6Proficiency with Office 365 and legal research tools like Westlaw Edge
- 7Strong research writing and critical thinking abilities
- 8Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- 9Travel capability within Maryland
