Overview
Sr. Developer AS400 owns the full lifecycle of IBM i application development, support, and maintenance. You lead critical business applications across RPG, RPGLE, CL, and DB2/400, directly impacting production stability. The tech stack centers on AS400, IBM i, RPGLE, CL, DB2/400, and SQL/400. You'll collaborate with business analysts to translate requirements into robust solutions, and your work secures the reliability of systems that run daily operations.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design and develop RPG and RPGLE programs to meet business logic and integration needs within the first 90 days.
- 2Build and maintain CL scripts and DB2/400 queries to automate jobs and support data flows.
- 3Debug and resolve production issues in AS400 environments, reducing downtime and ensuring data integrity.
- 4Analyze business requirements and map them to IBM i technical design, leading code reviews and documentation.
- 5Optimize existing SQL/400 and DB2/400 queries to improve performance in critical applications.
- 6Support batch processing and job scheduling using CL and AS400 commands, ensuring SLAs are met.
- 7Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AS400 systems with modern platforms, maintaining seamless data exchange.
- 8Drive migration and modernization initiatives for legacy RPG code, aligning with enterprise architecture goals.
Requirements8
- 15+ years of hands-on development on AS400 / IBM i platform.
- 2Proficient in RPG, RPGLE, and CL programming languages.
- 3Solid experience with DB2/400 and SQL/400 for querying and data manipulation.
- 4Strong knowledge of AS400 job scheduling, backup, and recovery procedures.
- 5Experience in analyzing and troubleshooting production issues in IBM i environments.
- 6Ability to design and implement RPGLE programs with service programs and modular coding.
- 7Familiarity with IBM i security, object authority, and audit requirements.
- 8Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail in a production-support capacity.
