Special Education Para II - Blue Valley North High School
Overview
You will support students with disabilities at Blue Valley North High School, helping them access the general curriculum and build independence. You will work alongside teachers, therapists, and administrators to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role offers 7.25 hours per day and 177 days per year with District Paid Health Insurance and Short-Term Disability. You will receive accrued sick leave from day one. This is a direct support position in a large suburban district.
What You'll Do8
- 1Assist students in general education and special education classrooms, adapting materials and activities to meet IEP goals.
- 2Implement behavior intervention plans, using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement.
- 3Support students with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and mobility, as required.
- 4Document student progress and behaviors, reporting observations to the case manager.
- 5Facilitate small group instruction in reading, writing, and math, reinforcing core concepts.
- 6Accompany students to therapy sessions, vocational settings, and community outings.
- 7Collaborate with teachers to modify assignments and assessments for students with disabilities.
- 8Supervise students during lunch, hall transitions, and after-school activities.
Requirements7
- 1High school diploma or equivalent
- 2Missouri Para Educator Certificate or ability to obtain one
- 3Experience working with children or adolescents, preferably in a school setting
- 4Ability to lift and position students up to 50 pounds
- 5Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- 6Pass background check and drug screening
- 7CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire
