SMT Process Engineer, PCB Manufacturing & Process Development
Overview
You will own SMT process development for new and existing PCB designs at Apex Systems, driving yield and reliability from prototype to production. You will lead process qualification, define reflow profiles, and establish documentation standards for SMT assembly. Working with cross-functional teams in Littleton, Colorado, you will apply Lean and Six Sigma methods to reduce defects and improve throughput. This role offers direct impact on aerospace-grade board production with a focus on IPC standards compliance.
What You'll Do8
- 1Develop and qualify SMT manufacturing processes for new PCB designs, ensuring first-pass yield targets.
- 2Design and execute experiments (DOE) to optimize reflow and wave solder profiles, reducing defect rates.
- 3Create and maintain process documentation, including work instructions and setup sheets, for SMT lines.
- 4Analyze production data using Minitab or JMP to identify root causes of defects and implement corrective actions.
- 5Collaborate with design engineering to improve DFM (Design for Manufacturing) for high-volume assembly.
- 6Lead process validation for new equipment and materials, ensuring IPC-A-610 compliance.
- 7Drive continuous improvement projects using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, tracking KPIs.
- 8Provide technical training to operators and technicians on SMT processes and equipment.
Requirements8
- 15+ years of experience in SMT process engineering within a PCB manufacturing environment.
- 2Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 3Hands-on experience with reflow ovens, pick-and-place machines, and AOI systems.
- 4Strong knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721).
- 5Proficiency in Minitab, JMP, or similar statistical analysis software.
- 6Proven track record with DOE, FMEA, and SPC methodologies.
- 7Experience with Lean and Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt preferred).
- 8Excellent problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
