Shelter Assistant (2nd Shift) - Women's Center
Overview
You'll ensure the safety and well-being of participants in a 24/7 shelter, serving 15,000+ individuals annually at Arizona's largest family homeless services provider. You'll work a 2nd shift (2pm-10:30pm) at the Women's Center, handling front-desk duties, crisis response, and facility oversight. You'll join a team committed to trauma-informed care and directly support participants' immediate needs. This role is a gateway to deeper social services, with opportunities to engage participants with case management.
What You'll Do9
- 1Provide friendly customer service to participants, volunteers, guests, and team members, answering calls and transferring as needed.
- 2De-escalate conflicts safely, contacting on-call leadership, police, fire, or crisis teams when necessary.
- 3Assist with donations, facility clean-up, work orders, and event support to maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
- 4Support participants in understanding program expectations and policies, documenting as appropriate.
- 5Engage participants to connect them with resources and case management, promoting self-sufficiency.
- 6Monitor shelter safety through rounds and wellness checks, conducting room checks and searches for health and security.
- 7Oversee move-outs, distribute hygiene supplies and mail, and document all interactions.
- 8Manage shelter traffic and communication, ensuring all procedures are followed.
- 9Answer program questions for participants, volunteers, and guests, providing accurate information about UMOM services.
Requirements10
- 11+ year of professional experience in social services, preferably with low-income, at-risk, or homeless individuals.
- 2High School or GED diploma preferred.
- 3Basic computer literacy: data entry, web navigation, typing, and text editing, plus proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- 4Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or ability to obtain one.
- 5Ability to pass Central Registry Screening from the Department of Child Safety and Adult Protective Services.
- 6Valid AZ Driver's License and driving record within UMOM's policy (50/100 insurance coverage).
- 7Ability to pass background check and drug screening, including random tests.
- 8Ability to lift 20+ pounds and climb one flight of stairs regularly.
- 9Willingness to work outdoors in all weather and perform stationary tasks with standard office equipment.
- 10Ability to work weekends and holidays on a 5-day schedule with 2 consecutive days off.
Salary Insight
