Overview
Lead end-to-end architecture of high-precision motion stages and mechatronic subsystems at Applied Materials. Own mechanical structure actuation sensing and motion control while setting technical direction for stage performance. Drive cross-disciplinary collaboration between engineering domains.
What You'll Do12
- 1Completes definition and design of complex precision-stage mechanical components modules and mechatronic sub-systems treating mechanics and controls as a co-designed system rather than separate disciplines
- 2Defines control system architecture for precision stages servo loop topology loop partitioning feedforward strategy sensor actuator selection and mechanical/control trade-offs governing positioning accuracy repeatability and settling time
- 3Sets and drives technical direction for stage controls establishing controls roadmap error budgets and quantitative performance targets nanometer-class positioning dynamic following error settling time and throughput
- 4Regarded as technical expert in precision motion and stage control demonstrating in-depth expertise in mechanics and motion control with broad knowledge of adjacent disciplines
- 5Anticipates business and regulatory issues recommends product process or service improvements solves complex problems with broad impact requiring conceptual and innovative thinking
- 6Impacts direction and resource allocation for programs projects and services works within functional policies and industry guidelines contributes to system engineering specification across disciplines
- 7Develops dynamic models of stage mechanics structural dynamics resonances mass stiffness budgets and integrates them with control design including active vibration isolation disturbance rejection and damping strategies
- 8Specifies and integrates position feedback metrology laser interferometers encoders capacitive optical sensors together with real-time control hardware motion controllers FPGA DSP drives amplifiers and full sensor-to-actuator signal chain
- 9Defines tunes and validates multi-axis servo loops feedforward and trajectory/motion profiles to meet positioning and dynamic performance under production conditions
- 10Ensures designs meet market requirement specifications MRS coordinates with marketing and management to understand subsystem requirements chairs architecture brainstorming meetings and drives systems process to down-select final stage architecture
- 11Conducts detailed engineering analysis of subsystems control-loop stability error budgeting modal structural dynamics thermal and dynamic error sources using deep design knowledge evaluates competing architectures recommends best overall system solution builds and qualifies prototypes or procures subsystems tests compliance with specifications identifies and troubleshoots difficult engineering problems partners with electrical firmware and software teams
- 12Performs and coordinates tests per internal and industry-reliability specifications makes suitable design or operational changes supports system engineering projects with mix of electrical mechanical physics controls algorithms and software provides remote and onsite support leads engineering projects including development of key suppliers drives tool safety standards prepares summary reports presents findings to technical experts holds BS in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Mechatronics or Controls with 10-15+ years experience MS preferred demonstrates knowledge of system engineering control theory servo feedback control design and multi-axis motion control hands-on mechatronic co-design familiarity with motion control hardware real-time control implementation and relevant safety standards proficiency with CAD tools MATLAB Simulink Python Excel
