Overview

You own the mechanical design and deployment of automated test equipment (ATE) for MKS products, serving global production and service sites. Working with the Technical Operations Test Engineering Team, you create modular, scalable test systems that directly impact product quality and throughput. Your designs—from gas panels to full fixtures—cut downtime and boost repeatability in high-volume manufacturing. You report to the Sr. Director of Technical Operations, with up to 20% travel to supplier and internal sites.

What You'll Do9

  • 1Design and document flexible, modular, and scalable test systems, including fixturing, for in-house and supplier deployment.
  • 2Build mechanical frameworks, tooling, and vacuum/pressure piping with SolidWorks 3D CAD, covering gas panel designs for ATE platforms.
  • 3Collaborate with Lead Test Engineers and Product Design Engineers to create and oversee mechanical concepts for new designs and continuous improvement.
  • 4Communicate critical technical information on system design and performance to stakeholders.
  • 5Lead periodic design reviews, ensuring alignment with all parties.
  • 6Manage multiple projects simultaneously, shifting priorities based on company needs.
  • 7Create and maintain test stand documentation, including plumbing diagrams, BOMs, mechanical layouts, and assembly drawings.
  • 8Reverse engineer legacy test systems to produce full documentation for outsourcing assembly to contract manufacturers.
  • 9Deliver user-friendly, ergonomic test system designs for high-volume manufacturing.

Requirements8

  • 1B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 28+ years of design experience, preferably in ATE (automated test equipment) design.
  • 3Expert proficiency in 3D CAD (mainly SolidWorks) and industry-standard documentation.
  • 4Ability to assess products for DFM, DFA, and poke yoke, ensuring reproducible and repeatable manufacturing.
  • 5Broad fabrication knowledge: assembly, machining, welding, casting, and additive manufacturing.
  • 6Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams and suppliers.
  • 7Working knowledge of engineering change management, revision control, BOMs, ECOs, and temporary deviations.
  • 8Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
