Overview
You will own the daily prescription workflow and customer interactions for a high-volume retail pharmacy in San Francisco, operating under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists. You will lead inventory management, coach junior technicians, and coordinate with healthcare providers to ensure accurate and timely dispensing. Your PTCB certification and 1+ years of experience will be put to work managing third-party claims, resolving customer issues, and supporting clinical services. This role is distinct because you will also guide the pharmacy's operational efficiency and quality improvement initiatives from day one.
What You'll Do10
- 1Greet and assist customers, handling inquiries that do not require pharmacist intervention and ensuring a positive experience.
- 2Enter patient and drug information into pharmacy systems, verifying accuracy and checking for potential drug interactions.
- 3Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring medications, with a double-check on correctness before final dispensing.
- 4Report any prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately and follow the Quality Improvement Program procedures.
- 5Process and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims, resolving rejection issues in a timely manner.
- 6Lead inventory management for the pharmacy: order, unpack, check, and store pharmaceutical shipments, and file claims for overages or damages.
- 7Coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers on correct use of processes and tools to drive efficiency in daily operations.
- 8Support the pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood or urine samples as needed.
- 9Build relationships with local physicians, nurses, and care facilities to foster community referrals.
- 10Maintain a clean, stocked, and organized pharmacy area, and execute the company's pickup program.
Requirements9
- 1PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
- 21+ years of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
- 3Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- 4Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- 5Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire.
- 6Prior experience with Walgreens is preferred.
- 7Basic math skills for counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
- 8Basic PC skills: start up and shut down the computer, use mouse, switch programs, save files, print, and access online information.
- 9Knowledge of store inventory control is preferred.
