Senior Optomechanical NPI Engineer, Optical Sensing & Production Readiness
Overview
A senior role owning transition from prototype to scalable production across optomechanical systems for advanced optical sensing. You will design and implement automation cells, fixturing, and reliability testing to enable high-yield manufacture and robust field performance. You’ll work closely with R&D, production, and leadership to drive platform success from lab to factory floor. This is a highly technical, hands-on position with autonomy to solve real hardware challenges in a fast paced team.
What You'll Do7
- 1Lead the transition of new opto mechanical designs from R&D prototype to a stable producible manufacturing platform
- 2Design and build automation cells, test fixtures, and alignment procedures to enable scalable manufacturing
- 3Own reliability testing and MIL STD 810 compliance for environmental and military standards
- 4Investigate root causes of failures and drive corrective actions across design, process, and manufacturing
- 5Redesign components or test setups as needed and hands on in the lab to ensure production readiness
- 6Collaborate with contract manufacturers, vendors, and internal teams to optimize tooling and fixturing
- 7Develop and document processes to support manufacturing engineering and supply chain best practices
Requirements10
- 1Ph.D. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or Applied Physics preferred
- 2Or Master’s with 2+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s with 5+ years
- 3Strong understanding of optical and mechanical fundamentals
- 4Proficiency in CAD SolidWorks for rapid design prototyping
- 5Hands on mechanical assembly, wiring, soldering, electronics controllers, and machining/tooling
- 6Experience taking a product from prototype through NPI into production
- 7Exposure to data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, MINITAB
- 8Familiarity with 3D printing and machine shop practices
- 9Experience with contract manufacturers and tooling fixturing
- 10Ability to thrive in a fast paced, highly technical team on site in Cambridge MA
