Senior General Ledger Accountant, Construction & Data Center Projects
Overview
The role owns the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger across multiple entities in a multi-entity, project-based construction environment. You will lead month-end close, financial reporting, and reconciliations, partnering with Project Accountants, Operations, and Finance leadership. You will influence controls, processes, and cross-functional collaboration to support GAAP compliance and accurate project costing.
What You'll Do10
- 1Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process across multiple entities to ensure timely, accurate reporting
- 2Prepare and post journal entries including accruals, prepaids, depreciation, intercompany transactions, and standard and non-standard entries
- 3Perform balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- 4Review trial balances to identify misclassifications or variances and implement corrections
- 5Ensure job cost activity is reflected in the GL and reconciled to WIP schedules with the Project Accounting team
- 6Maintain chart of accounts across entities for consistency and proper mapping
- 7Support intercompany transactions and eliminations and assist in external financial statements and schedules
- 8Assist with cash flow analysis, budget-to-actual variance reporting, and ad hoc financial analysis
- 9Prepare audit schedules and coordinate with external auditors and tax preparers
- 10Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen internal controls and close efficiency
Requirements13
- 1Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 25+ years of progressive general ledger accounting experience in multi-entity environments
- 3Strong knowledge of GAAP and month-end close processes
- 4Experience with account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation
- 5Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
- 6Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- 7High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- 8Ability to work in-person, full-time at the Rockville, MD office
- 9Preferred: CPA or CPA candidate
- 10Experience in construction, AV integration, low-voltage, or data center industries
- 11Experience with job costing and percentage-of-completion accounting
- 12Experience with construction/ERP software such as Sage 300 CRE, Procore, Viewpoint, Foundation or similar
- 13Public accounting background (audit or advisory)
