Senior Financial Analyst, Engineering & FP&A for Defense Robotics
Overview
Senior Financial Analyst to partner with Engineering and Enablement at a defense robotics start-up shipping autonomous counter-drone systems. Own budgets, forecasts, and reporting forEngineering and enabling functions including IT, Facilities, and People. Build tools and processes to scale as the company targets ~$1B in annual revenue. On-site in Austin, TX.
What You'll Do8
- 1Build and maintain the annual budget and quarterly re-forecast for Engineering and Enablement cost centers including headcount, R&D spend, and program-related costs
- 2Own monthly budget-versus-actual variance analysis and deliver actionable commentary to functional leaders and FP&A leadership
- 3Serve as the primary FP&A partner for Engineering and Enablement leaders and build financial models for non-finance stakeholders
- 4Help design FP&A systems, templates, and cadence and contribute to a modern FP&A planning platform
- 5Collaborate with Engineering leadership to forecast hiring plans, contractor and tooling spend, and program-driven cost changes
- 6Translate operational decisions into financial impact for leadership and support ad hoc analyses
- 7Assist with developing reporting packages for monthly and quarterly finance reviews
- 8Support rollout of planning tools and expand scope to additional functions as the business grows
Requirements8
- 13 to 5 years of progressive FP&A experience, ideally supporting engineering or technical functions
- 2Strong Excel and financial modeling skills with clear, usable models for non-finance stakeholders
- 3Experience with headcount-heavy cost structures and full budget cycle management
- 4Strong partnering and communication skills to influence decision-making across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- 5Ability to leverage AI and automation tools to improve forecasting accuracy and analysis
- 6Experience with SQL or data tooling and Power BI or similar platforms is a plus
- 7Experience supporting R&D or engineering cost centers, including capitalized R&D or program-based cost tracking
- 8Comfort translating hiring and program plans into financial forecasts
