Senior Financial Analyst, FP&A & Engineering Finance
Overview
You will own the budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting for Engineering and Enablement at a defense startup shipping autonomous counter-drone systems to SOCOM and the U.S. Army, on a path to $1B in annual revenue. You will partner directly with functional leaders to ground spend and headcount in financial reality, and stand up the tools and cadence FP&A runs on. This execution-focused role offers high visibility and direct impact on strategic decisions, with a clear path to scale as the company grows.
What You'll Do7
- 1Build and maintain annual budgets and quarterly re-forecasts for Engineering and Enablement cost centers, covering headcount, R&D spend, and program costs.
- 2Own monthly budget-versus-actual variance analysis, delivering clear commentary to functional leaders and FP&A leadership.
- 3Prepare recurring reporting packages and ad hoc analyses, contributing inputs to the broader monthly and quarterly finance package.
- 4Serve as the primary FP&A contact for Engineering and Enablement leaders, building financial models and tools they can use to manage their own budgets.
- 5Help functional leaders understand variance drivers and translate operational decisions into financial impact.
- 6Build and refine systems, templates, and processes for planning and reporting, including evaluating and rolling out a modern FP&A planning platform.
- 7Take on increasing scope across additional functions as the team and business grow.
Requirements6
- 13-5 years of progressive FP&A experience, ideally supporting engineering or R&D functions.
- 2Strong Excel and financial modeling skills, with the ability to build clear, usable models for non-finance stakeholders.
- 3Comfortable working with headcount-heavy, engineering-driven cost structures, translating hiring and program plans into forecasts.
- 4Detail-oriented with the ability to own a full budget cycle from planning through variance analysis.
- 5Strong business partnering and communication skills, building trust with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- 6Ability to leverage AI and automation tools to build financial models and improve forecasting accuracy.
