Senior Field Risk Engineer - Property
Overview
You will own large commercial property risk assessments across the U.S., conducting loss prevention surveys at facilities worth up to $100M. You join a team of 50+ engineers and underwriters, backed by a technical integration group for niche expertise. This role offers full schedule autonomy, remote work, and direct client impact. You will mentor junior engineers while tackling complex fire, flood, and wind exposures.
What You'll Do10
- 1Conduct 25% overnight travel to perform property loss prevention surveys at commercial facilities.
- 2Determine building construction and assess the impact of plastics on construction materials.
- 3Analyze water supplies and sprinkler system demands to judge adequacy of fire protection.
- 4Identify occupancy hazards and evaluate their protection features against fire and other risks.
- 5Assess external exposures like neighboring structures and site conditions that impact the facility.
- 6Calculate fire and natural catastrophe loss estimates for each property using AIG guidelines.
- 7Perform consultative visits to customer sites to discuss risk improvements with clients.
- 8Review construction plans for compliance with NFPA and other applicable codes.
- 9Witness fire protection equipment testing such as pumps and alarms to verify performance.
- 10Document survey results in a data-driven report application and mentor less experienced staff.
Requirements9
- 1Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.
- 25+ years in highly protected risk, specialized industry, or boiler and machinery field experience.
- 3Familiarity with commercial occupancies and their hazards.
- 4Strong oral and written communication skills for client and underwriting interactions.
- 5Valid U.S. driver's license with at least one year of driving experience.
- 6Ability to perform physical work: walk 8-10 hours daily, work at heights, lift up to 50 lbs.
- 7Ability to use ladders, scaffolds, and lifts safely.
- 8Willingness to work outdoors and wear safety gear like hard hats and safety shoes.
- 9Professional Engineer (PE) or Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) designation is desired.
