Senior Electrical Lead, Panel Build & Machine Wiring
Overview
You will own the electrical execution of every machine build at MPE Global, a custom polyurethane and elastomer processing equipment manufacturer. With 70% hands-on work and 30% direction, you will lead a team of four technicians from panel layout through power-up and functional test. Reporting to the Production Manager with technical alignment to Engineering, you will set wiring standards and make routine sizing calls independently using NFPA 79, NEC Article 430, and UL 508A. Your expertise in Siemens controls and VFD and servo drives will drive first-pass yield up and rework down. This role offers direct impact on a growing manufacturer's build quality and schedule.
What You'll Do10
- 1Own the electrical execution of every machine build from panel layout through power-up and functional test, ensuring on-time delivery and quality.
- 2Assign daily work across four technicians, sequencing tasks against the production schedule and holding the team to committed dates.
- 3Set and enforce wiring standards for labeling, wire color, gauge, routing, strain relief, terminations, and documentation, driving rework down and first-pass yield up.
- 4Make routine sizing and selection calls independently: conductor ampacity, voltage drop, motor branch circuit protection, overload and starter sizing, control transformer VA, 24 VDC supply loading, terminal and bus ratings, and ground and bond sizing.
- 5Apply NFPA 79, NEC Article 430, and UL 508A practice to industrial machine builds, and specify correct practice for shielded analog, encoder, thermocouple/RTD, servo, and Profinet cabling.
- 6Red-line schematics and feed corrections back to Engineering so drawings match the as-built machine.
- 7Lay out and build industrial control panels from schematics, including PLCs, VFDs, servo drives, safety relays, contactors, power supplies, distribution, and heater control.
- 8Route and terminate machine harnesses, field devices, motors, valves, heaters, and instrumentation; then perform point-to-point checkout, continuity and insulation testing, and controlled power-up.
- 9Lead electrical troubleshooting during integration, functional testing, and customer FAT, supporting controls engineering during I/O checkout and commissioning.
- 10Train and mentor technicians on electrical fundamentals, standards, and quality expectations, building repeatable methods so quality does not depend on who wires the panel.
Requirements8
- 18+ years in industrial control panel building, machine wiring, or electrical assembly for custom equipment.
- 2Demonstrated ability to size conductors, overcurrent protection, motor circuits, transformers, and power supplies without engineering support.
- 3Working knowledge of NFPA 79, NEC Article 430, and UL 508A panel construction practice.
- 4Strong schematic literacy in electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- 5Experience wiring and commissioning PLC-based control systems (Siemens preferred; Allen-Bradley acceptable).
- 6Hands-on experience with VFDs, servo drives, safety circuits, and 480V 3-phase power distribution.
- 7Proven experience directing or leading a crew of technicians, providing clear direction and holding team members accountable.
- 8Ability to take initiative and make timely decisions without waiting for direction.
