Senior Electrical Engineer, Spacecraft Electronics
Overview
You will own the next generation of deep space compute and storage, designing board-level electronics for compute modules, network switches, and storage nodes. You'll balance CPU, GPU, and storage capability with the constraints of power, thermal, and reliability on the Terran R vehicle. Working closely with the science and software teams, you'll drive hardware from concept to flight-ready systems. This role offers high autonomy and the chance to challenge the status quo of onboard compute for interplanetary missions.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design, build, and qualify high-performance spacecraft electronics, including compute modules, network switches, and storage nodes.
- 2Lead hands-on development campaigns to evaluate key technologies, derisk interfaces, and validate performance before full system integration.
- 3Collaborate with the science team to maximize capability by balancing CPU, GPU, storage capacity, and network bandwidth with spacecraft constraints like power, thermal, and EMI.
- 4Partner with the software team to bring up core software infrastructure on the spacecraft and ground side, iterating to ensure full system operation in all environments.
- 5Own the architecture and design of board-level electronics from concept through production, ensuring compliance with IPC-6012 and J-STD-001 standards.
- 6Conduct bring-up and validation of sophisticated electronics in challenging thermal and electromechanical environments.
- 7Drive rapid prototyping and early testing cycles to accelerate learning and reduce risk.
- 8Work across internal and external teams to turn concepts into hardware, moving quickly from analysis to prototypes to flight-ready systems.
Requirements8
- 15+ years designing and delivering high-performance digital electronics.
- 2Proven experience leading design, bringup, and validation of sophisticated board-level electronics.
- 3Hands-on experience with challenging thermal and electromechanical environments.
- 4Excellent technical communication, problem-solving, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
- 5Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 6Experience with non-volatile storage, mobile compute, or server-class computing is a plus.
- 7Experience designing power supplies for digital electronics, such as multi-rail converters with strict sequencing.
- 8Experience with compute and storage survivability in space and radiation environments is a plus.
