Senior EHS Specialist, Battery & Hazardous Waste Compliance
Overview
Own environmental compliance for Roush's Livonia, MI site, managing battery lifecycle, hazardous waste, stormwater, and regulatory adherence across industrial operations. You will report to the EHS leadership team and collaborate with operations and maintenance staff to maintain permits and drive sustainability initiatives. What You'll Do9
- 1Lead environmental compliance programs for battery management, including lithium-ion, lead-acid, and universal waste batteries, ensuring lifecycle compliance from receipt to disposal.
- 2Manage hazardous waste determinations, characterization, storage, and disposal documentation, including RCRA and land disposal restriction paperwork, and select vendors for proper disposal.
- 3Maintain stormwater compliance by implementing SWPPP and NPDES permit requirements, conducting regular site audits of SQG storage and outside storage areas.
- 4Conduct routine EHS audits across assigned sites, including building safety walks and stormwater inspections, and document findings to drive corrective actions.
- 5Coordinate with site management on safety and environmental concerns, including audit results, injury trends, and root cause analyses, to implement proactive improvements.
- 6Manage environmental permits and certifications for assigned sites, ensuring timely renewals and adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
- 7Develop and monitor hazardous materials inventory and SDS compliance, ensuring accurate records and proper labeling across all work areas.
- 8Drive battery recycling and sustainability initiatives, collaborating with operations to reduce waste and improve environmental performance.
- 9Track EHS metrics, recommend process improvements, and partner with operations to implement changes that reduce risk and enhance compliance.
Requirements8
- 18+ years of environmental compliance experience in manufacturing, industrial, energy, or recycling environments.
- 2Strong experience managing battery programs, hazardous waste, and stormwater compliance, including SWPPP and NPDES permits.
- 3Expert knowledge of RCRA, CWA, CAA, and state environmental regulations, with in-depth understanding of hazardous waste characterization and universal waste rules.
- 4Proven track record leading audits, regulatory inspections, and enterprise-wide initiatives independently, including executive-level reporting.
- 5Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with ability to present to senior leadership.
- 6Ability to develop and implement long-term EHS strategies and risk mitigation plans.
- 7High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree in EHS, Occupational Safety, or related field preferred.
- 8OSHA 30-hour, CHMM, CSP, or 40-hour HAZWOPER certifications a plus.
