Senior Database Engineer, SQL Server & MariaDB - TS/SCI Poly Required
Overview
Own database engineering across on prem and cloud at mission scale in a small, high-performing team. Build, troubleshoot, and optimize MS SQL Server and MariaDB databases while embracing automation and proactive improvements. Collaborate with a close-knit group of engineers and stakeholders to mature database processes and resilience. This role is distinguished by a strong security clearance requirement and a focus on mission-critical data platforms.
What You'll Do9
- 1Build and maintain MS SQL Server and MariaDB databases across hybrid environments to ensure availability, security, and performance.
- 2Diagnose and resolve database instance errors and performance bottlenecks to minimize downtime and optimize query execution.
- 3Automate repetitive database administration workflows using PowerShell or Python scripts.
- 4Design, implement, and test enterprise backup, restoration, and disaster recovery plans.
- 5Collaborate with small agile teams and stakeholders to align database capabilities with mission needs.
- 6Tune indexes and instance configurations to achieve target performance and scalability goals.
- 7Support and configure databases for enterprise SharePoint deployments and related applications.
- 8Document procedures and maintain robust operational runbooks for continuity and knowledge transfer.
- 9Monitor, log, and alert on database health metrics to enable proactive issue detection.
Requirements9
- 1Hands-on experience creating, maintaining, patching, and supporting MS SQL Server, MariaDB, and/or Oracle databases.
- 2Experience in performance tuning including indexes, query optimization, and instance-level tuning.
- 3Proven ability to troubleshoot database errors, performance issues, and application connection problems.
- 4Strong knowledge of designing, managing, and testing backup, restoration, and disaster recovery processes.
- 5Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field OR 1 4+ years of hands-on software engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
- 6Knowledge of cloud database services, specifically AWS RDS, is a plus.
- 7Familiarity with Windows administration tools including Event Log and Task Scheduler is a plus.
- 8Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in small, agile teams.
- 9Active TS/SCI polygraph clearance is required.
