Senior CAD Designer, Solar PV & BESS Renewable Energy
Overview
You will own the design and drafting of solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) project layouts for AES Clean Energy, the largest US-based global power company. Working with Development Engineers, you will produce site plans, early-stage designs, and single-line diagrams for utility-scale projects across 12 countries. Our team of renewable experts collaborates to expand AES’s owner-operated portfolio. This role offers flexible work location with up to 10% travel. You will contribute to a company ranked #1 by BloombergNEF in renewable energy sales and a seven-time Edison Award winner.
What You'll Do9
- 1Collaborate with Development Engineers to produce preliminary AutoCAD site plans and layouts for utility-scale solar and BESS projects.
- 2Design early-stage PV and BESS layouts, ensuring compliance with company drawing standards and templates.
- 3Integrate and analyze field survey data, using shapefiles to refine site designs.
- 4Generate Bill of Materials (BOM) from CAD drawings for PV and BESS construction.
- 5Create civil and electrical construction details, including grading and substation specifics.
- 6Follow quality control procedures to ensure completeness, accuracy, and code compliance.
- 7Communicate proactively with the team to meet deadlines and resolve design issues.
- 8Support Development Engineers with single-line diagrams and electrical plan reviews.
- 9Travel up to 10% to project sites and partner offices for field verification.
Requirements10
- 12-year AAS degree in Computer Aided Design and Drafting or equivalent.
- 2Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- 35+ years of drafting/design experience in the solar PV or renewable industry.
- 4Familiarity with solar PV designs, site layouts, and layout considerations.
- 5Basic understanding of electrical plans, diagrams, and terminology.
- 6Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- 7Proficiency working with shapefiles.
- 8Superb problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- 9Detail oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- 10Willingness to learn and grow technically.
