Senior AWS Cloud Engineer, GovCloud & CMMC
Overview
Build and own the AWS GovCloud (US) foundation for a Cerberus-backed aerospace and defense manufacturing platform. You will design the landing zone, infrastructure-as-code standards, and secure data architecture that connect manufacturing operations to analytics. This hands-on role partners with a lean team and sets the cloud foundation for a growing network of companies. AWS GovCloud and CMMC Level 2 compliance are core to this role.
What You'll Do9
- 1Design and build the AWS GovCloud landing zone, including accounts, networking, identity, guardrails, and logging aligned to FedRAMP High / CMMC L2 expectations.
- 2Establish infrastructure-as-code standards using Terraform or CloudFormation, ensuring the environment is version-controlled, repeatable, and auditable.
- 3Architect secure data pipelines from the shop floor via industrial IoT and edge connectivity into a CUI-tiered data lake on S3, with downstream analytics.
- 4Stand up secure access with bastion hosts, Direct Connect/VPN, and least-privilege access patterns for a controlled environment.
- 5Implement FIPS-validated encryption in transit and at rest, KMS key management, immutable logging, and boundary controls.
- 6Own cloud networking with VPC design, Transit Gateway, and Direct Connect/VPN connectivity to on-premises sites, in partnership with the network engineer.
- 7Establish CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows to automate infrastructure and deployment processes.
- 8Drive operational health with CloudWatch monitoring, logging, and observability, plus cost visibility and optimization.
- 9Support M&A integration by developing repeatable patterns to bring acquired companies' data and systems onto the platform.
Requirements10
- 17+ years of cloud engineering with deep hands-on AWS experience.
- 22+ years in AWS GovCloud or another accredited/regulated cloud environment.
- 3Strong AWS networking skills: VPC, Transit Gateway, and hybrid connectivity (Direct Connect/VPN).
- 4Strong infrastructure-as-code skills with Terraform or CloudFormation, plus CI/CD and Git-based automation.
- 5Experience designing secure data pipelines and data lakes on AWS with S3, IAM, KMS, and VPC.
- 6Familiarity with CMMC / NIST SP 800-171 or FedRAMP control expectations in a cloud context, with willingness to learn.
- 7Ability to operate independently in an early-stage environment and document for a growing team.
- 8Preferred: AWS Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, DevOps, or Security.
- 9Preferred: Experience with AWS IoT Greengrass or SiteWise for industrial edge data ingestion.
- 10Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
