Resource Program Inclusion Teacher Grade 1
Overview
You will own inclusive instruction for Grade 1 students with disabilities at Livingston School, part of New Brunswick Public Schools. You will co-teach with general education teachers, adapt curriculum, and manage IEP goals for a caseload of 15-20 students. You will join a team of 6 special education teachers and report to the Director of Special Education. This role includes 10 sick days, 3 personal days, and tuition reimbursement after 2 years. You will shape the first-year experience for students who need targeted support, with a focus on evidence-based interventions and data-driven progress monitoring.
What You'll Do9
- 1Co-teach Grade 1 literacy and math blocks, delivering differentiated instruction to include special education students in general education classrooms.
- 2Develop and monitor IEPs for a caseload of 15-20 students, scheduling annual reviews and progress reports within 45 days of placement.
- 3Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and crisis prevention strategies, partnering with school counselors and behavior specialists.
- 4Adapt district curriculum materials and assessments to meet individualized learning needs, using assistive technology tools like Read&Write and Book Creator.
- 5Lead monthly IEP meetings with parents, general education teachers, and related service providers, ensuring compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
- 6Track student progress using data collection tools, entering weekly notes into IEP Direct and adjusting instructional strategies based on student performance.
- 7Collaborate with Grade 1 team and special education department to plan co-taught lessons and share best practices for inclusive classroom management.
- 8Supervise paraprofessionals and instructional aides, providing daily guidance and feedback on support roles in the classroom.
- 9Communicate with parents through weekly newsletters and phone calls, building partnerships to support academic and behavioral goals.
Requirements9
- 1Hold Teacher of Preschool Through Grade 3 or Elementary School Teacher in Grades K-6 certificate.
- 2Hold Teacher of Students with Disabilities certificate.
- 3New Jersey teaching license or eligibility for emergency certification.
- 40-2 years of experience in special education teaching or student teaching in an inclusive setting.
- 5Demonstrate knowledge of IEP development and progress monitoring.
- 6Experience with co-teaching models or collaborative instruction preferred.
- 7Strong classroom management skills and ability to build rapport with young learners.
- 8Willingness to participate in professional development days and staff trainings.
- 9Ability to pass criminal background check and child abuse clearance.
