Teacher Assistant, Special Education Support
Overview
Teacher Assistant owns daily classroom support for 20+ students with diverse learning needs at Langston Hughes School. You will partner with the lead teacher to deliver instructional interventions, manage behavioral plans, and adapt lesson materials using Google Classroom and AESOP scheduling. This role sits within a collaborative special education team, reporting to the Principal. Your first 90 days focus on building trust with students and mastering IEP accommodations. What You'll Do9
- 1Assist lead teacher in delivering small group instruction in math and literacy using Google Classroom
- 2Implement IEP accommodations and track student progress with PowerSchool
- 3Support behavioral interventions and document incidents in SWIS
- 4Prepare classroom materials and adapt lesson plans for diverse learners
- 5Supervise students during lunch, recess, and transitions
- 6Collaborate with special education team to adjust teaching strategies
- 7Attend professional development sessions on differentiated instruction
- 8Communicate student progress to parents via parent-teacher conferences
- 9Maintain classroom organization and safety protocols
Requirements7
- 1High school diploma or equivalent
- 21+ year experience as a teacher assistant or in childcare
- 3CPR and First Aid certification
- 4Ability to pass background check and fingerprinting
- 5New Jersey teacher assistant certification or willingness to obtain
- 6Bilingual in Spanish preferred
- 7Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
