Relief Residential Counselor, Youth Shelter & Crisis Intervention - Part Time
Overview
Relief Residential Counselor will own crisis intervention, intake counseling, and group facilitation within the Youth Emergency Shelter program, at scale across San Diego. You will support residents, supervise volunteers, and maintain shelter operations part time. You will collaborate with the Program Manager, contribute to life skills coaching, and help youth access health and educational resources. What makes this role unique is direct service in a shelter setting with a strong emphasis on trauma-informed care and community partnerships.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and maintain shelter structure through supervision of residents and enforcement of rules and consequences
- 2Provide crisis intervention, intake counseling, and mediation to residents to stabilize immediate safety
- 3Conduct intakes and assist in developing individualized life plans for youth
- 4Teach and model skills through individuals and groups including youth leadership
- 5Assist in teaching life skills and healthy coping strategies to residents
- 6Maintain data collection and records with accuracy and confidentiality
- 7Communicate program needs, events, and incidents via logs and direct contact
- 8Welcome and support volunteers to expand service capacity and achieve outcomes
- 9Maintain shelter cleanliness and safety and ensure compliance with MIS equipment
- 10Participate in mandatory trainings and meetings and maintain flexibility for shifts and overnight coverage
Requirements10
- 1Available to cover at least one shift per quarter in evenings, overnight, weekends or holidays
- 2Must obtain or maintain CPR and First Aid Certification
- 3Able to lift and carry 25 lbs and drive own vehicle or agency vehicle if applicable
- 4Clear background check, TB test, and drug test required
- 5Bilingual Spanish-English helpful but not required
- 6Experience in a residential setting preferred
- 7Must be able to work in a diverse environment with varied backgrounds
- 8Comfort with flexible scheduling including nights and weekends
- 9Compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality standards
- 10Must be available to stay overtime for crises intervention or documentation
