Overview

The Residential Counselor will engage youth and manage the milieu across Bridge Over Troubled Waters residential programs in Boston, shaping a safe, therapeutic community for 18-24 year olds. This is a full-time, onsite role on the 2pm 10pm shift, with monthly coverage adjustments. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to provide housing support, counseling, and skill-building in a high-impact environment.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Build rapport with youth and encourage participation in program activities
  • 2Monitor residents to ensure safety and conduct regular rounds of bedrooms and common areas
  • 3Maintain a clean, organized program space and ensure a welcoming environment
  • 4Redirect inappropriate talk or behavior and support trauma-informed interactions
  • 5Create a welcoming environment with appropriate controls on noise and stimulation to support diverse groups
  • 6Attend and contribute to weekly supervision, staff meetings, and program planning sessions
  • 7Assist with daily facilities tasks including meal setup, bedroom preparation, and housekeeping
  • 8Maintain program statistics and client records in accordance with policy and procedures

Requirements5

  • 1One to two years of experience working with youth ages 18-24 in housing management, job development, community relations, substance abuse, or recreational counseling
  • 2Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, or related field preferred
  • 3Ability to identify and implement effective problem-solving strategies
  • 4Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills
  • 5Comfort with a fast-paced dynamic work environment and enthusiasm for working with homeless transitional youth
