What You'll Do8

  • 1Build a patient plan of care on arrival, using EPIC to document real-time assessments and interventions.
  • 2Lead shift handoffs, ensuring accurate clinical details transfer to the next care team without loss.
  • 3Drive emergency response within scope, stabilizing patients in Trauma and Code Blue situations.
  • 4Delegate tasks to LPNs, CNAs, and Unit Secretaries based on acuity and competency.
  • 5Coach patients and families through diagnosis and discharge, adapting communication to age and culture.
  • 6Audit your own documentation for accuracy, meeting Mercy policy and regulatory standards.
  • 7Mentor new staff on unit protocols and create a healthy work environment to meet department goals.
  • 8Collaborate with physicians and allied health to coordinate complex patient care in the ED.

Requirements8

  • 1Iowa RN license or compact state license required.
  • 2BLS certification from American Heart Association required.
  • 3ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
  • 4TNCC and ENPC completed within 18 months of hire.
  • 51+ years of acute care nursing experience preferred.
  • 6BSN preferred.
  • 7Ability to rotate shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • 8Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills for high-stress situations.
