Overview
This role owns patient care delivery in the Emergency Department at Edward Hospital, a Magnet-recognized facility, during night shifts. You will assess, plan, and evaluate care for diverse acute cases, working with a multidisciplinary team across a high-volume unit. The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or an associate degree with a commitment to complete a bachelor's within five years. What You'll Do9
- 1Assess patient conditions on arrival, recognizing changes and prioritizing care based on acuity in the ED.
- 2Administer medications and treatments per Illinois Nursing Practice Act, monitoring for adverse reactions.
- 3Document patient progress and care interventions accurately in EPIC electronic health records.
- 4Delegate tasks to LPNs and CNAs, ensuring appropriate skill mix and patient safety.
- 5Collaborate with physicians, PAs, and NPs to develop and adjust care plans for trauma and cardiac cases.
- 6Educate patients and families on discharge instructions, medication regimens, and follow-up care.
- 7Lead response to code blue situations, performing CPR and coordinating team efforts.
- 8Triage incoming patients using ESI (Emergency Severity Index) to match resources to acuity.
- 9Maintain infection control protocols and prepare rooms for rapid turnover during high-volume nights.
Requirements8
- 1Current Illinois RN licensure and CPR Certification (AHA or Red Cross).
- 2Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or higher, or associate degree with agreement to complete bachelor's within 5 years.
- 3ACLS certification within 3 months of start date.
- 4PALS certification within 3 months of start date.
- 5NIHSS Stroke Scale certification within 3 months of start date.
- 61-2 years of acute care nursing experience, ED experience preferred.
- 7Night shift availability, including every third weekend and rotating holidays.
- 8Per Diem commitment of 73-110 hours per 6-week schedule.
