Overview

Own medication self-administration and clinical care coordination for 250+ residents at a behavioral health facility. Bridge psychiatric and physical health, ensure state survey readiness, and cut medication errors to zero. Work with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, and a multidisciplinary team in a residential setting. Drive infection control and quality improvement across the medical department.

What You'll Do9

  • 1Oversee medication self-administration for all residents, ensuring zero-error tolerance and strict adherence to physician orders.
  • 2Audit Medication Administration Records (MAR) and narcotic counts to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • 3Serve as the primary contact for consulting pharmacists and local pharmacies to manage deliveries, refills, and medication destruction.
  • 4Perform initial health screenings and ongoing nursing assessments to identify acute or chronic medical issues.
  • 5Coordinate with the Medical Director (Psychiatrist) to adjust psychiatric medications and monitor metabolic or side-effect concerns.
  • 6Facilitate communication with external Primary Care Physicians (PCP), dentists, and specialists to address residents' physical health needs.
  • 7Maintain a survey-ready medical department for state licensing audits and Joint Commission accreditation.
  • 8Develop and implement infection control policies, TB testing protocols, and emergency medical response procedures.
  • 9Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) committees, reporting on medication errors, health trends, and immunization compliance.

Requirements8

  • 1Valid, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of practice.
  • 2Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • 33+ years of nursing experience, preferably in behavioral health or residential settings.
  • 4Demonstrated understanding of psychotropic medications and state medication administration regulations.
  • 5Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EHR) and Electronic Medication Administration Records (eMAR).
  • 6Strong organizational skills to manage medical logistics for a large resident population.
  • 7Excellent communication skills for collaborating with a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • 8Ability to work in a 24/7 residential environment and stand or walk for extended periods during facility rounds.
