Public Works Laborer, CDL Road Maintenance
Overview
You will own road maintenance, snow and ice control, and equipment upkeep across Elizabeth Township. This role demands a Class A CDL and heavy machinery operation. You'll join a 10-person Public Works crew reporting to the Supervisor, working outdoors 95% of the time in all weather. What You'll Do10
- 1Patch and resurface streets with asphalt concrete, ADS, and liquid bituminous asphalt.
- 2Build and repair retaining walls, guide rails, curbs, gutters, and catch basins.
- 3Operate loaders, backhoes, track hoes, paver, and roller for construction projects.
- 4Fabricate and install street and traffic signs following MUTCD guidelines.
- 5Set up work zone traffic control and perform flagging duties for roadwork and emergencies.
- 6Drive CDL trucks and bucket/boom trucks for hauling and overhead work.
- 7Maintain storm and sanitary systems by flushing and jetting pipes with specialized equipment.
- 8Mow, sweep, collect debris, and maintain parks and municipal properties.
- 9Paint and stripe streets, including curb markings and pavement messages.
- 10Track work hours and time off in the payroll application and communicate via township email.
Requirements9
- 1Class A CDL license required.
- 21+ years in public works maintenance or construction.
- 3Proficiency with hand tools and power tools like saws, tampers, and chippers.
- 4Experience operating heavy equipment: loaders, backhoes, and excavators.
- 5Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly and up to 80 lbs.
- 6Knowledge of safety protocols for hazardous materials and confined spaces.
- 7Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions and on difficult terrain.
- 8Strong communication skills for coordinating with the public and township staff.
- 9Residency in Elizabeth Township, Elizabeth Borough, Forward Township, or West Elizabeth Borough within 18 months of hire.
