Laborer/Equipment Operator, Asphalt Plant
Overview
You will keep the asphalt plant running with hands-on maintenance and equipment operation at our Philadelphia facility. Working with Heidelberg Materials, one of the world's largest building materials suppliers, you join a 450+ location North American network. You handle daily plant upkeep, operate heavy equipment, and cross-train in other roles. This union-backed position offers stability, benefits, and outdoor work.
What You'll Do8
- 1Clean the plant daily: remove debris, sweep, and shovel to keep walkways and work areas safe.
- 2Perform light to heavy mechanical maintenance on conveyors, crushers, and other plant equipment to ensure constant production.
- 3Operate plant equipment including loaders, skid steers, and groundskeeping tools to support daily operations.
- 4Maintain heavy equipment by checking fluid levels, greasing fittings, and reporting wear.
- 5Assist plant maintenance crews with repairs, part replacement, and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
- 6Cross-train in other plant roles such as scale operator or yard laborer to cover shifts as needed.
- 7Follow all safety protocols: wear PPE, lockout/tagout, and report hazards immediately.
- 8Support weekend and overtime shifts to meet production schedules.
Requirements9
- 1High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 21+ year experience in plant operations, construction, or similar physical labor.
- 3Ability to work 8 and 12 hour shifts, including weekends.
- 4Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- 5Capability to operate groundskeeping equipment like mowers and trimmers.
- 6Competency in physical tasks: lifting 50+ lbs, standing, bending, and working outdoors in heat, cold, and humidity.
- 7Effective communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with crew members.
- 8Commitment to safety and quality standards with a valid driver's license.
- 9Must pass post-offer physical, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. FMCSA testing may apply.
