Overview
You will own roadway maintenance across Oakland, Iowa, repairing surfaces, signs, and infrastructure while operating heavy equipment. What You'll Do8
- 1Patch roadway surfaces using asphalt and concrete materials to maintain drivable conditions.
- 2Repair and install guardrails, signs, fences, and lighting systems along state highways.
- 3Set up traffic control zones with cones, signs, and flagging operations for maintenance crews.
- 4Operate snow plows and salt spreaders to clear ice and snow from roadways during winter storms.
- 5Mow vegetation, cut brush, and apply herbicides to control weeds along roadside areas.
- 6Inspect and service DOT vehicles and equipment, performing routine maintenance like oil changes and tire checks.
- 7Collect litter and debris from roadsides, ensuring a clean and safe environment.
- 8Respond to emergency call-outs during severe weather or accidents, working up to 16 hours as needed.
Requirements8
- 1High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 2Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) upon hire, with Class A CDL and endorsements within 5 months.
- 34 years of education and/or full-time highway maintenance or equipment operation experience.
- 4Valid U.S. DOT Clearinghouse query and pre-employment physical.
- 5Pass drug screen and participate in random drug and alcohol testing.
- 6Willingness to obtain pesticide/herbicide certification as required.
- 7Reside within 45 minutes driving time of Oakland Maintenance Garage within 5 months.
- 8Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, and be on call 24/7 during emergencies.
