Overview

You will own maintenance and repair of deice trucks and ground support equipment at Cedar Rapids Airport. You'll keep a fleet of diesel vehicles and hydraulic systems running safely through harsh Midwest winters. You'll work with a small team reporting to station management, logging work in CMMS software. Your decisions directly impact on-time departures and passenger safety.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems on deice trucks and ground equipment.
  • 2Use diagnostic scanners and multimeters to trace electrical faults and PLC-based controls.
  • 3Perform 50-hour and 100-hour inspections per OEM specs, documenting findings in CMMS.
  • 4Order parts through CMMS inventory modules, tracking usage and flagging low stock.
  • 5Coordinate with ramp agents to schedule downtime without delaying deicing operations.
  • 6Spot-check tools and lift equipment daily, reporting damaged items to the station lead.
  • 7Communicate equipment status via shift logs and morning briefings, noting weather-related risks.
  • 8Respond to callouts within 2 hours for snow events, restoring units to service before next wave.

Requirements8

  • 13+ years hands-on repair of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and air brake systems.
  • 2High school diploma or GED, plus valid driver's license.
  • 3Own a basic mechanics tool set with 1/2-inch drive sockets up to 1 inch.
  • 4Read schematics and blueprints to trace electrical and hydraulic circuits.
  • 5Work at heights up to 20 feet on scissor lifts and cherry pickers.
  • 6Lift 100 pounds occasionally, stand for prolonged shifts, and tolerate extreme cold.
  • 7Pass TSA background check and obtain Airport ID badge.
  • 8Basic computer skills for CMMS data entry and email communication.
