Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic, Fleet Maintenance
Overview
You'll own the health of our entire fleet and stationary equipment, from trucks and tractor-trailers to hydraulic systems and air compressors, across Washington, DC. Diagnose and repair mechanical failures, keep vehicles running at peak performance, and coordinate fixes with the Manager and your team. You'll also supervise a Mechanic's Helper, respond to road calls, and uphold safety standards. What You'll Do8
- 1Diagnose and repair fleet vehicles and stationary equipment to company standards, using diagnostic tools and OEM manuals.
- 2Coordinate repairs with the Manager and team, prioritizing safety-critical issues, and own the fix from start to finish.
- 3Supervise and guide a Mechanic's Helper, delegating tasks and ensuring quality control on every repair.
- 4Conduct required inspections, such as DOT inspections, and document all maintenance work accurately in fleet management software.
- 5Respond to road calls and on-site breakdowns, troubleshooting electrical systems, brake systems, and hydraulic systems in the field.
- 6Maintain a clean, organized shop, following all safety and environmental regulations, including proper disposal of oil and coolant.
- 7Pick up equipment or supplies as needed, using service trucks and forklifts.
- 8Train fellow employees on repair techniques and share best practices for maintaining diesel engines and hydraulic components.
Requirements8
- 13+ years of experience repairing heavy-duty diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
- 2Proven ability to diagnose and repair air compressors, welding equipment, and fleet vehicles.
- 3Experience with electrical diagnostics and brake systems on Class 8 trucks.
- 4Valid CDL with hazmat endorsement preferred, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- 5Physical ability to lift up to 100 lbs. and push/pull up to 50 lbs., with frequent reaching and gripping.
- 6Comfort working in a shop environment with dust, fumes, and noise, including extended periods of standing, kneeling, and squatting.
- 7Strong documentation habits, with the ability to complete DOT inspection forms and repair orders accurately.
- 8Willingness to respond to road calls, including after-hours and rotating on-call support.
