Project Engineer, Capital Construction & Infrastructure
Overview
You will supervise and direct engineering teams on complex City Capital projects for the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure, owning design and construction management from RFP to final inspection. Your projects span traffic, streets, bridges, and structures, often involving multi-disciplinary coordination. You will report to a Project Manager and guide a team of professional and technical staff, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. What You'll Do8
- 1Direct design and construction management for Capital Projects from concept through closeout, delivering on schedule and budget.
- 2Supervise assigned engineers and technicians, evaluating performance and leading corrective actions when needed.
- 3Author RFPs, bid documents, ordinances, and resolutions for consultant and contractor procurement.
- 4Review shop drawings and in-house designs, enforcing compliance with AASHTO and OSHA standards.
- 5Track project progress, identifying delays and risks, and recommend change orders to the Project Manager.
- 6Coordinate with city departments, consultants, and the public to resolve project issues.
- 7Oversee in-house, consultant, and contractor work, validating payment requisitions against completed milestones.
- 8Inspect active sites, navigating uneven terrain and varying weather to verify safety and adherence to plans.
Requirements7
- 13+ years of full-time engineering experience, including 2 years as a design or resident engineer on major construction projects.
- 2Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field; EIT certification preferred.
- 37+ years combined education and experience per equivalency standards.
- 4Current, valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
- 5Residency within Pittsburgh city limits before hire and maintained throughout employment.
- 6Pass a background investigation including criminal, driver's license, and real estate tax checks.
- 7Provide official transcripts verifying post-secondary education prior to hire.
