Project Accountant, Construction & Real Estate Finance
Overview
Project Accountant at Hughes Marino supports owner-side financial control for high-impact construction programs across hardware technology, advanced manufacturing, and defense tech projects. You will own invoicing validation, budget integrity, and financial reporting from Columbus, collaborating with project managers and clients. This role requires independence from contractor interests and a focus on defensible budgets.
What You'll Do10
- 1Review and validate contractor and vendor invoices, pay applications, and lien waivers on behalf of the owner
- 2Maintain project budgets, commitments, and cost-to-complete forecasts across multiple projects
- 3Collaborate with project managers to develop budgets and forecasts for concurrent construction programs
- 4Track project costs, change orders, and invoices for accuracy and contract alignment
- 5Monitor financial performance and proactively flag variances or cost concerns
- 6Support monthly financial reports and client-facing budget updates
- 7Manage close-out processes including reconciliations, final reporting, and documentation
- 8Review leases and work letters for financial terms related to construction and reimbursement
- 9Reconcile costs against budgets and flag variances for PM review
- 10Maintain records in PMIS platforms (Procore, e-Builder) and ensure data integrity
Requirements10
- 13-5 years of accounting or financial management experience in construction, real estate, or related industry
- 2Experience with construction pay applications and lien waivers preferred
- 3Strong financial acumen in budgeting, cost tracking, and reporting
- 4Familiarity with commercial construction workflows and vendor invoicing processes
- 5Experience supporting or overseeing construction budgets preferred
- 6Proficiency in PMIS platforms (Procore, e-Builder) and advanced Microsoft Excel
- 7Strong understanding of construction cost structures, CSI codes, and budget management
- 8Attention to detail and organizational ability to manage multiple projects
- 9Clear written and verbal communication skills for interaction with PMs, clients, and vendors
- 10Local candidates in Columbus, OH and bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or related field
