Process Engineer, Carbon Capture Solutions
Overview
You will own process design for Carbon Capture Solutions at Caterpillar Oil & Gas, shaping large-scale projects from feasibility to startup. You will lead process simulations with Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus, delivering PFDs and P&IDs that meet performance and cost targets. You will work with a global team of process, mechanical, and controls engineers, plus business development, EPC partners, and tech vendors. Your work directly impacts the energy industry's decarbonization, combining technical depth with commercial insight. This role offers 20%+ travel and a high-visibility path in a $128K-$192K range.
What You'll Do10
- 1Develop PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, and basis of design for carbon capture systems.
- 2Run process simulations using Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus to optimize performance and economics.
- 3Lead technoeconomic evaluations comparing process options for efficiency and scalability.
- 4Drive process design from feasibility through FEED, detailed design, commissioning, and startup.
- 5Coordinate engineering deliverables across internal and external project teams.
- 6Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and 3-D model reviews, and review vendor packages.
- 7Support construction, commissioning, startup, and performance testing at site.
- 8Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior process engineers.
- 9Assist business development with customer presentations and technical discussions.
- 10Engineer solutions for TSA, PSA, and VPSA molecular sieve technologies, plus amine absorption and membranes.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- 25+ years in oil and gas with increasing responsibility.
- 3In-depth knowledge of molecular sieve technologies: TSA, PSA, VPSA.
- 4Experience with gas processing: amine absorption, membranes, distillation.
- 5Expertise in heat transfer, phase separation, and contactor/separator design.
- 6Familiarity with engine emissions and aftertreatment options.
- 7Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software.
- 8Proficiency with chemical process flowsheets (e.g., Aspen HYSYS).
- 9Demonstrated analytical skills and system-level understanding of engines/gas turbines.
- 10High emotional intelligence to manage multiple projects under pressure.
