Overview

You will own carbon fiber process development and characterization at Hexcel's Salt Lake City Fibers site. You will drive structure-property relationships and eliminate sources of variation in existing products. You will work with cross-functional teams using DMAIC and DOE to improve performance and cost. You will manage process conditions to meet Process Control Document requirements and lead qualification efforts for new equipment. This role offers direct impact on advanced composite materials for aerospace and other industries.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Design, implement, and operate mechanical and electromechanical systems for carbon fiber manufacturing.
  • 2Evaluate carbon fiber processing conditions and resultant material properties, troubleshooting with SPC techniques.
  • 3Manage process conditions to meet Process Control Document requirements and mechanical and physical properties.
  • 4Direct process improvements to boost performance and reduce cost, using DMAIC and DOE.
  • 5Develop and implement carbon fiber processing conditions for new equipment and materials.
  • 6Manage qualification efforts for new equipment, processes, and materials.
  • 7Train operations personnel on new processes and procedures.
  • 8Disposition nonconforming product and support root cause and corrective action activities.
  • 9Mentor and train the Process Engineering team.
  • 10Interface with customers and ensure compliance with EHS policies.

Requirements10

  • 1Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Materials, or other Engineering.
  • 23+ years experience in carbon fiber or other continuous process industry.
  • 3Proven ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • 4Ability to interpret extensive abstract and concrete variables.
  • 5Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presenting to groups.
  • 6Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • 7Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma continuous improvement programs.
  • 8Experience with SPC and other statistical techniques.
  • 9Experience with SQL, Python, PowerBI, or other data analytics software.
  • 10Eligibility to work in the US: citizen, national, permanent resident, temporary resident, refugee, or asylee.
