PRN Spanish Interpreter, Healthcare
Overview
You will provide accurate, timely Spanish interpretation for patients and families across Bell Hospital, supporting diverse linguistic needs in a major health system. You will join a collaborative team of interpreters and clinical staff, serving as a cultural and linguistic resource to improve patient outcomes. Working PRN (as needed), you will handle a variety of settings, from bedside conversations to complex medical discussions. This role demands strong ALTA or equivalent proficiency and a commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards. You will also support team operations through rounding, education, and data entry when demand is slow.
What You'll Do10
- 1Interpret accurately and timely for Spanish-speaking patients and families in clinical and administrative settings.
- 2Maintain strict patient privacy and confidentiality in all interactions.
- 3Facilitate communication between providers and patients, clarifying cultural nuances.
- 4Contribute to problem-solving by following directions and escalating issues when appropriate.
- 5Interact courteously and customer-focused, ensuring patient satisfaction.
- 6Work as a team member, accepting delegated tasks and supporting colleagues.
- 7Perform intentional rounding on all language requests to identify unmet needs.
- 8Educate staff on interpreter best practices, policies, and procedures.
- 9Handle data entry and generate reports for interpretation services.
- 10Complete other duties as assigned when on-site demand decreases.
Requirements8
- 12+ years demonstrated experience as a medical interpreter in a healthcare setting.
- 2High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 3Documented proof of ALTA language proficiency assessment or equivalent.
- 4Proof of interpreting competencies, such as CMH SBA training or college degree in interpreting.
- 5Knowledge of medical terminology and medical background.
- 6Preferred: Bachelor's Degree.
- 7Preferred: Bridging the Gap (minimum 40 hours) or similar medical interpreter training.
- 8Preferred: Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI) or National Certification (NBMI).
