Performance Ambassador, Science Museum Actor
Overview
You will own guest engagement at the Power of Poisons exhibit, performing scripted material in costume for audiences aged 3-13. You will rehearse and deliver shows, then pivot to guest care and crowd management. The role sits on the Guest Engagement team, supporting frontline staff and reporting to management. You will bring science to life for thousands of visitors across 5+ months, with 18.50 hourly pay and paid sick time.
What You'll Do8
- 1Perform scripted material in costume, facilitating diverse audience participation and engaging guests with science topics.
- 2Provide high-quality customer service, including ticketing assistance, resolving guest concerns, and presenting accurate knowledge of LSC offerings.
- 3Manage large crowds and queues efficiently, overseeing the condition and safety of all public areas.
- 4Arrive on time for all scheduled performances, having all props and set pieces in place prior to each show.
- 5Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and mentorship by representing the LSC brand positively, avoiding gossip, treating colleagues with respect, and maintaining grooming standards.
- 6Contribute to a positive team-based culture through peer coaching and modeling, following all LSC and departmental policies and procedures.
- 7Follow all safety and cleanliness protocols, assisting with cleaning duties when assigned.
- 8Assist in training new hires to the highest service standards and support special events and programming as needed.
Requirements9
- 1High School Diploma or GED.
- 2Theatrical personality with charismatic, energetic, and friendly demeanor and strong customer-service focus.
- 3Performance abilities or acting experience with comfort in public speaking and audience facilitation.
- 4Demonstrated initiative, strong judgment, and creative problem-solving skills.
- 5Strong teaming and collaboration abilities, including communication and de-escalation skills.
- 6Ability to work in high-energy, crowded environments with large crowds and high noise levels.
- 7Ability to stand for extended periods, navigate concrete floors, bend, lift, and stretch in basic costume.
- 8Ability to work outdoors, including uneven ground and varied weather, and lift 25 pounds.
- 9Availability to work Wednesday through Sunday at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ from September through January.
