Patient Access Representative, Hospital Registration & Insurance Verification
Overview
The Patient Access Representative will own the patient check-in and registration workflow at a large hospital site within Washington DC. They will handle scheduling, insurance verification, and payment collection for a high-volume patient experience. Collaborating with clinical and administrative teams, they ensure accurate registration and smooth patient flow through the care continuum. This role offers direct hire stability, onsite collaboration, and opportunities across evening and swing shifts.
What You'll Do10
- 1Register and check in patients accurately within hospital registration systems
- 2Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, referrals, and authorization information
- 3Collect and document patient payments and explain financial responsibilities
- 4Schedule and coordinate patient appointments and follow-up visits
- 5Complete bedside registration for Emergency Department patients when needed
- 6Coordinate with teams to resolve missing authorizations or referrals
- 7Review registration information for accuracy before services are billed
- 8Maintain patient documentation across portals and work queues
- 9Answer calls and assist patients with scheduling, registration, and questions
- 10Collaborate with clinical, financial, scheduling, and insurance teams to prevent delays in care
Requirements10
- 12+ years of hospital registration experience
- 2Strong experience with patient registration, scheduling, and insurance verification
- 3Experience collecting co-pays and other patient payments
- 4Comfortable discussing insurance coverage and financial responsibility
- 5Experience in a high-volume hospital environment preferred
- 6Strong customer service and patient-facing experience
- 7Epic experience is a plus
- 8Experience with Cerner or other hospital registration systems preferred
- 9Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- 10Professional and composed handling of challenging patient interactions
