Pathologist Assistant, Surgical Pathology & Grossing
Overview
You will own the gross description and dissection of surgical tissue at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, supporting Pathologists in clinical and research activities. With 3+ years of specimen grossing experience, you will handle high-volume cases, perform tumor procurement, and mentor junior staff. This onsite role in New York City offers a $10,000 sign-on bonus, a $125,400-$200,700 pay range, and the chance to work alongside world-class cancer specialists.
What You'll Do7
- 1Perform gross description and dissection of surgical specimens, ensuring accurate tissue sampling for diagnosis.
- 2Set up cases, capture gross images, and select frozen sections for intraoperative consultation.
- 3Procure tumor tissue for research protocols, coordinating with Pathologists and clinical teams.
- 4Mentor and educate new staff and students in grossing techniques and laboratory procedures.
- 5Operate and maintain lab equipment, including Leica grossing stations and Ventana processors.
- 6Manage workflow to meet turnaround targets, prioritizing urgent cases and communicating with stakeholders.
- 7Document findings in EPIC and PowerPath, adhering to CAP and NYSDOH regulations.
Requirements8
- 13+ years of experience in specimen grossing in a clinical pathology lab.
- 2Bachelor of Science from a Pathologist Assistant Program (Master's preferred).
- 3ASCP certification strongly preferred.
- 4New York State Pathologists Assistant License required or obtained within 6 months of hire.
- 5New graduates from an accredited PA master's program welcome to apply.
- 6Proficiency in gross description, dissection, and frozen section preparation.
- 7Strong verbal and written communication skills, with computer proficiency in EPIC and PowerPath.
- 8Ability to handle high-volume, complex cases with attention to detail and problem-solving.
