Packaging Engineer, Corrugated Box Design & Artios CAD
Overview
You will own corrugated packaging design for Client North America, delivering structural prototypes that cut costs and meet sustainability targets. You join a cross-functional packaging team of 12 engineers and designers, reporting to the Senior Packaging Manager. You will use Artios CAD daily, collaborating with sourcing, quality, and suppliers. This hybrid role puts you in Roswell, GA two days a week (Tue/Wed) and remote the rest. The 6+ month contract offers 30 hours per week, with potential to grow. You will make an immediate impact by modernizing our corrugated packaging library and supporting high-volume launches.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design and validate corrugated packaging structures using Artios CAD, ensuring drop test and crush performance within the first 90 days.
- 2Own the end-to-end packaging development for 3-5 new product launches, from concept to supplier handoff.
- 3Partner with International Paper and WestRock to optimize board grades and reduce material cost by up to 15%.
- 4Conduct package testing (ISTA, edge crush, box compression) and document results for compliance.
- 5Serve as the technical point of contact for manufacturing plants, troubleshooting line issues and adjusting designs.
- 6Lead value engineering projects, replacing non-corrugated materials with sustainable corrugated alternatives.
- 7Maintain and expand the internal Artios library, tagging designs for reuse.
- 8Present design reviews to leadership, with clear data on cost, quality, and timelines.
Requirements7
- 13+ years in corrugated packaging design, with a portfolio of structural designs.
- 2Proficiency in Artios CAD (required), including 3D modeling and die line creation.
- 3Experience with International Paper, WestRock, or Pratt is a strong plus.
- 41+ years using AutoCAD or SolidWorks for packaging or mechanical design.
- 5Hands-on knowledge of corrugated materials (flutes, grades) and their performance.
- 6Ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines in a hybrid work environment.
- 7Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
