Senior Packaging Engineer, Additive Manufacturing & Aerospace
Overview
You will own packaging engineering for a company building an end-to-end factory system called DAPS, serving automotive and aerospace and defense clients. You will design and validate packaging for high-performance components, working with a team of engineers, program managers, and logistics specialists to meet aggressive timelines and technical specifications. This role offers the chance to shape packaging strategy at a company using machine learning and additive manufacturing to disrupt traditional production. You will work onsite in Los Angeles, with a focus on cost-effective, lifecycle-optimized solutions that protect critical hardware.
What You'll Do10
- 1Design and develop packaging solutions for outbound finished goods for automotive and aerospace programs, using CAD and simulation tools.
- 2Implement preservation and protective methods for critical hardware during processing, transportation, and storage.
- 3Generate and maintain controlled packaging documentation, including drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- 4Ensure labeling meets military, hazardous material, serialization, and shipping requirements.
- 5Support packaging qualification testing for ISTA, ASTM, and ISO standards.
- 6Coordinate with suppliers and third-party labs to certify materials and designs.
- 7Lead packaging risk assessments and corrective actions for failure investigations.
- 8Drive packaging strategy from initial design through launch for new programs.
- 9Optimize inbound packaging for high-spend commodities to cut costs and increase utilization.
- 10Design lineside conveyance solutions for vehicle and printed part manufacturing, and set sub-inventory and labeling standards.
Requirements10
- 15+ years in packaging engineering, with automotive or aerospace experience.
- 2Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3Expertise in SolidWorks or Catia for 3D modeling and packaging design.
- 4Knowledge of packaging materials including plastics, composites, foams, and corrugated board.
- 5Experience with packaging testing standards (ISTA, ASTM, ISO) and conducting physical tests.
- 6Proficiency with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP) and advanced Excel or Google Sheets.
- 7Experience with international logistics and global supply chains.
- 8Ability to manage multiple projects and work cross-functionally.
- 9Familiarity with military standards and additive manufacturing logistics is a plus.
- 10Experience in early-stage manufacturing or with certified packaging is preferred.
