Operations Supervisor, Manufacturing & Lean
Overview
You will lead a manufacturing shift team of 15-25 operators on 2nd shift (3pm-1am, Mon-Thu) at our New Brighton, MN plant, owning safety, quality, delivery, and cost outcomes. You report to the Manufacturing Manager and drive daily performance through our Operational Excellence System (OES). You will deploy Lean tools like 5S, A3, and Root Cause Analysis to eliminate waste and improve flow. Your leadership directly impacts plant reliability and our reputation as a global screening solutions provider.
What You'll Do8
- 1Lead your assigned work team to hit SQDC targets, using OES boards and cards to drive daily accountability and continuous improvement.
- 2Enforce HSE policies and conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and incident reporting to maintain a zero-injury workplace.
- 3Build shift scheduling and resource allocation plans that match workload with available labor and skills.
- 4Coach and develop team members through performance reviews, real-time feedback, and corrective action plans.
- 5Drive root cause analysis on quality defects or delivery misses, implementing 5S and Standard Work to prevent recurrence.
- 6Coordinate cross-functional handovers with off-shifts and support teams to maintain seamless production flow.
- 7Track and report daily metrics on labor utilization, scrap, throughput, and on-time delivery, using SAP and safety reporting tools.
- 8Facilitate weekly OES team meetings, ensuring every card is closed with a countermeasure and verified result.
Requirements10
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, including shift-level decision-making.
- 2Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, supply chain, or manufacturing required.
- 3Lean certification or demonstrated expertise with 5S, A3, Root Cause Analysis, and Standard Work.
- 4Proven ability to manage employee relations independently, escalating to HR only for complex issues.
- 5Experience with ERP systems such as SAP for production tracking and inventory control.
- 6Strong data analysis skills to identify performance gaps and implement corrective actions.
- 7Excellent verbal and written communication, with a collaborative, respectful management style.
- 8Ability to foster an inclusive team culture that values safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- 9Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) for reporting and documentation.
- 10High school diploma required; 2-year vocational degree preferred.
