Overview

The Operations Labor Manager leads union labor and operational resources ensuring safe efficient compliant cost-effective outcomes. This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on management driving performance across diverse teams.

What You'll Do13

  • 1Exercise independent judgment over hiring assignment direction evaluation discipline termination of labor personnel per policies and agreements.
  • 2Direct and assign foremen supervisory clerks based on operational needs and workforce availability.
  • 3Maintain knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and enforce their administration and enforcement daily.
  • 4Investigate incidents safety violations labor complaints prepare reports and escalate matters appropriately.
  • 5Determine workforce composition and equipment needs to execute plans safely efficiently and within budget.
  • 6Manage labor and equipment deployment adjust assignments during shifts monitor productivity identify gaps implement corrective actions.
  • 7Review documentation verify equipment readiness and compliance before operations begin.
  • 8Accountable for personnel safety enforce policies terminal procedures regulatory requirements and safe practices.
  • 9Plan coordinate document daily safety meetings with Health Safety and Environment personnel address hazards.
  • 10Ensure HAZMAT OSHA and other compliance report incidents according to protocols.
  • 11Verify required PPE worn by all personnel ensure respectful discrimination free environment address concerns.
  • 12Serve as primary coordination point among vessel personnel customers agents terminal staff and labor support terminal systems troubleshoot ensure data accuracy submit reports on time.
  • 13Perform additional supervisory duties as required.

Requirements11

  • 1High school diploma or equivalent management experience considered.
  • 2Preferably 3 years managing union labor in comparable environment.
  • 3Valid driver's license and ability to obtain TWIC card.
  • 4Current CPR certification.
  • 5Working knowledge of terminal operations cargo stowage stability and local union dispatching rules.
  • 6Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • 7Familiarity with computerized terminal operating systems.
  • 8Knowledge of applicable safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
  • 9Ability to work rotating shifts days evenings and nights across multiple terminals.
  • 10Physical capability to work in extreme heat cold dusty conditions high noise levels hazardous environments unable to see hear fast moving equipment.
  • 11Effective communication with union workforce management and external stakeholders.
