
Microphone Module Engineer, Acoustics & MEMS Design
Overview
You will own microphone module design and validation for a global consumer device leader. Your work spans acoustics, mechanics, electronics, and MEMS to eliminate distracting noises and enhance sound quality. You collaborate with a diverse team of acoustics, mechanics, electronics, physics, and MEMS experts, plus multi-functional teams daily. This contract role offers direct impact on future flagship products.
What You'll Do7
- 1Design and validate microphone modules from prototype to mass production, focusing on acoustic performance and mechanical robustness.
- 2Troubleshoot acoustic noise issues using FEA and lumped element modeling, implementing corrective actions within the first 90 days.
- 3Collaborate with electrical and firmware teams to integrate MEMS microphones into system architecture, ensuring signal integrity and low noise.
- 4Conduct acoustic testing in anechoic chambers and environmental chambers, analyzing data to drive design iterations.
- 5Drive root-cause analysis on audio artifacts and mechanical coupling, presenting findings to cross-functional teams.
- 6Support manufacturing bring-up and yield improvement for microphone modules, coordinating with suppliers for quality and reliability.
- 7Develop test methodologies and automated scripts for Python or MATLAB to accelerate validation cycles.
Requirements7
- 13+ years of experience in microphone or acoustic module design, including MEMS microphones.
- 2Proficiency with FEA tools such as ANSYS or COMSOL for acoustic and structural simulation.
- 3Hands-on experience with acoustic measurement systems (e.g., LMS, SoundCheck, or APx).
- 4Knowledge of audio signal processing concepts and DSP fundamentals.
- 5Familiarity with Cadence or Altium for PCB integration of microphones.
- 6B.S. or M.S. in Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
- 7Ability to travel to manufacturing sites in Asia for engineering builds (up to 15%).
