Mentor Elementary Program, CQA Elmhurst
Overview
You will design and run a safe, engaging after-school experience for elementary students at CQA in Elmhurst. You will own homework help, classroom management, and social-emotional learning activities for a cohort of 20-30 youth. You will join a supportive team at SAYA, a South Asian-focused youth development nonprofit serving 5-8 schools in Queens and Brooklyn. This contract role offers $22-$24/hour and direct mentorship from the Program Director.
What You'll Do9
- 1Design and deliver age-appropriate curriculum and interactive activities that build core competencies and SEL skills in elementary students.
- 2Build rapport and trust with youth, providing guidance and serving as a role model through professional language and behavior.
- 3Manage classroom dynamics to maintain a positive learning environment and ensure safety during all activities, including meals, transitions, and field trips.
- 4Provide homework assistance and encourage academic progress for each student.
- 5Monitor and engage youth during clubs, recreation, and dismissal, using youth development principles to support growth.
- 6Facilitate problem-solving and behavior modification through constructive communication with youth and families.
- 7Collaborate with supervisory staff and school community to ensure program integration and quality.
- 8Track and report program data, including attendance, incident reports, and supply requests, to the Program Director on time.
- 9Participate in training and professional development to improve program effectiveness.
Requirements6
- 1Bachelor's degree or current college student preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2Prior experience working with school-age children required.
- 3Interest and experience in youth development, academic enrichment, and creating interactive educational or artistic activities.
- 4Enthusiasm for developing professional skills through training and field practice.
- 5Comply with School Age Child Care (SACC) requirements, including background check and medical clearance.
- 6Bilingual skills considered a plus.
