Medical Records Assistant - Reo Vista Healthcare
Overview
You will maintain resident medical records and health information systems, ensuring compliance with federal and state guidelines and facility privacy policies. You will work onsite in San Diego, California, coordinating with the MDS team and other departments to keep charts complete and accurate. This role involves hands-on filing, retrieval, and data entry as well as occasional secretarial duties. On-the-job training in medical record procedures is provided, making this an entry-level opportunity in a healthcare setting.
What You'll Do9
- 1File nurses' notes, resident assessments, progress notes, laboratory reports, x-ray results, and correspondence into resident charts using EHR systems.
- 2Retrieve and deliver resident medical records manually or electronically to authorized personnel, ensuring proper sign-out and sign-in logs.
- 3Collect, assemble, check, and file resident charts, returning incomplete records to appropriate departments for correction.
- 4Assist the MDS Coordinator in scheduling assessments in line with OBRA guidelines and facility procedures.
- 5Abstract information from records for insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and the VA, following HIPAA privacy rules.
- 6Type and transcribe physician reports, maintain admission and discharge registries, and index medical records as directed.
- 7Batch resident information into the computer and retrieve demographic data when requested.
- 8Perform secretarial duties for facility committees, compiling records and preparing reports for review.
- 9Ensure workstations are logged off when unattended and report any suspicious access or fraud to the Administrator.
Requirements8
- 1High school diploma or GED.
- 2Typing speed of 45+ words per minute with ability to use dictation equipment.
- 3Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- 4Computer literacy in data retrieval, input, and output functions.
- 5Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- 6Capable of pushing, pulling, moving, and/or lifting 25+ pounds to a height of 5 feet and carrying that weight 50 feet.
- 7Must pass a medical and physical examination per facility policy.
- 8Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.
