What You'll Do16
- 1Perform standardized clinical laboratory tests across blood banking sections and remote locations
- 2Conduct donor interviews and visual inspections ensuring FDA compliance and SOP adherence
- 3Determine donor eligibility based on judgment and regulatory guidelines
- 4Screen blood donors for adverse reactions and monitor for complications during donation
- 5Take vital signs and verify hemoglobin/hematocrit levels for donor eligibility
- 6Strip, segment, weigh, and store whole blood units while recording detailed processing times
- 7Prepare and label blood components including RBCs platelets and plasma according to SOP
- 8Enter and review test results ensuring proper procedures for irregularities
- 9Maintain accurate records for donor files and perform quality control tests
- 10Manufacture blood components and manage inventory of processing supplies
- 11Participate in mobile blood drives and perform equipment maintenance tasks
- 12Operate blood bank management systems and handle hazardous materials safely
- 13Provide training to new personnel and evaluate new instrumentation for operational use
- 14Conduct second overall donor assessments and explain procedures to candidates
- 15Monitor donors during phlebotomy and administer first aid for adverse reactions
- 16Process apheresis donations and collect donor histories for plasma and platelet donations
Requirements10
- 1High school diploma or equivalent with one year clinical lab experience in hematology chemistry cytology histology urinalysis serology microbiology blood bank
- 2ASCP certification or equivalent from AMT or ASD(HA)
- 3Current BLS certification through American Heart Association or Red Cross
- 4US citizenship
- 5Minimum five years of experience in clinical laboratory settings
- 6Graduate from NAACLS ABHES or AMT accredited program
- 7Knowledge of SOP and regulatory guidelines for blood banking
- 8Ability to operate complex medical equipment and perform preventive maintenance
- 9Familiarity with immunohematology and serological testing standards
- 10Strong judgment for donor safety and independent decision-making skills
