Medical Assistant Trainee - Upper Bucks
Overview
You will learn to assist in health care management, participate in data collection, and support clinical teams at St. Luke's. This trainee role combines classroom education with hands-on patient care, covering vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, and specimen collection. You'll shadow and precept under practice managers, physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Upon completion, you'll test and validate skills to move into a network role. What You'll Do9
- 1Learn anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and abbreviations in classroom training.
- 2Perform vital signs, intake and output measurements, EKGs, glucometry, phlebotomy, and specimen collection under supervision.
- 3Update medication lists, allergies, personal history, and family history; document all assigned tasks.
- 4Shadow and precept to maintain quality improvement initiatives and schedule appointments and track referrals.
- 5Capture patient demographics and conduct pre-visit planning by reviewing medical records and recent test results.
- 6Complete pre-charting of value-based items up to 5 days before appointments and send messages to the care team.
- 7Prep patients for examinations and escort them to exam rooms.
- 8Review in-basket clinical pool messages and clear them by completing necessary information.
- 9Maintain referral work queues and update notes to communicate with other departments.
Requirements7
- 1High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2Customer service experience is strongly preferred.
- 3BLS/CPR certification current or within 60 days of hire through American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- 4Ability to sit, stand, and walk for up to 8 hours at a time.
- 5Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push carts up to 30 pounds.
- 6Fine motor skills for patient care, writing, and computer entry.
- 7Visual and hearing acuity for patient interaction and charting.
